the (hair)cut

Not a few people (men and women alike) turn to their hair to release their frustrations and get themselves a major haircut, or a massive-mane-makeover (3M). Some make do with cropping their hair a few inches. Others opt for a minor change in hairstyle. Still, there are those who completely go to the extremes, going skinhead or sporting a barber’s cut after wearing shoulder length hair for quite some time.

This is not a queer eye edition of the moonlighter. It’s just that when people get frustrated and do stuff with their hair, the process of going through a haircut is given a different meaning. Yes it is refreshing for everyone; for the one who had the haircut and for those around him/her (granting the haircut was actually done in good taste and not one where your friends push you to hunt down the hairdresser who just committed first degree homicide). Change is good. Hair grows back anyway; but there are things you can't afford to lose, even temporarily. On the most superficial level, a new haircut gives a person a fresh beginning. A new (out)look perhaps.

The same must be true when you try to grow your hair back. When you turn to your existentialist tendencies, you find a different, personal meaning in growing it back. It is like starting all over, with a renewed sense of hope. As though growing it to a much longer length would give you extraordinary powers, much like the biblical Samson, to let you realize what you have always wanted to achieve. Imagine if everyone drew strength and power from their hair. Salons would certainly go broke (if they only serviced haircuts; but they can always come up with the need for treatments you know).

Disclaimer: This entry is not inspired by the movie Hairspray okay? Hehe. (my sister is not exactly a huge fan of Mr.Travolta) I do not even know if the movie had anything to do with hair. The thought just comes by.
