islomo

in a world where one can hardly put anything at a standstill, moments of clarity become extremely elusive, like having your picture taken and all you get is a blur of colors. people are occupied with so many things which, they believe, should not and could not be put on hold. apparently for some, taking a break and doing nothing (can you simply stare into space?) is a mortal sin these days. perhaps at one point, you already found yourself taking pride and sort of feel that you are given importance for being "toxic" and loaded with tons of work.it's like saying that your value as a person is directly proportional to how busy you get, or how busy you project yourself to be. does being busy equate to a meaningful life? or you can just argue that a tomato is not a fruit.

you'd find it funny, but not altogether absurd, that for ordinary people, just when they finally have all the time to spend doing the things they love, they realize that they need to work in order to have enough to spend (although there are many things we can enjoy doing without spending too much). but when they go back to work, they hardly find time to enjoy the fruits of their labor, so to speak. perhaps such is the irony of life, but then we are introduced the value of moderation.

busying oneself with work is a an opportunity to find meaning in one's mundane existence. but it does not ultimately give substance to a person's life. to work and to labor is a gift. however, it must be realized that one can never be too busy for people who stand highest among one's priorities, and for things which truly matter. is looking after family, whether a parent or a sibling, or simply spending time with them not worth busying yourself with? how many times have you used being busy as an excuse for not helping your little sister in her homework, or going with your father to the doctor for his routine check-up, or simply making your presence felt for a friend in trouble?

it is foolish to think that we should stop working altogether. we always go back to the cliche, that we must do everything in moderation, but can you even remember the last time you literally took a breather, and made yourself aware of your breathing? or are you guilty of catching yourself short-breathed most of the time because of stress and anxiety?

next time you change your messenger status to "-Busy", are you really?
