Who grew up not watching tv?

A lot of people think i did (specially those who knew me from school, haha!).

Now, when you try to remember those shows which you grew up with, a rush of nostalgia hits you as the stream of retro-shows flood you (friday nights: teenage mutant ninja turtles, 90210, amazing stories, power rangers etc.). You are overcome with mixed feelings when you remember the many evenings and weekends you looked forward to, waiting for those tv shows (huh?).

For some reason, recalling these shows makes you remember certain things about childhood and growing up as well; even the smell of sauteed onions cooking up in the kitchen while watching them. You picture yourself waiting for dinner and watching Master Splinter fighting Shredder with Michaelangelo, Donatello, Rafael, and Leonardo-- and you couldn't help but smile.

There were times when you sneaked glances of your favorite show while reviewing for a quiz the following day. For those who learned early the wonders of multi-tasking, they even manage to review for a quiz, finish reading assignments and of course, see how alex mack would once again have fun using her accidental special powers.

Here are some of the best TV shows which must have "touched" lives of growing kids circa 1980s/1990s.

MacGyver

This man Richard Dean Anderson, happens to be my uncle. Haha! Seriously, MacGyver made a complete Saturday night. It used to be aired at 7pm Saturday nights. You must have enjoyed how he figured out using every scrap around him and turn any place into a science lab. He was the man, for a grade schooler who knew little of chemistry and physics. And you wonder, why did he choose to be called MacGyver? Well, his first name was Angus.

Doogie Howser, MD

Before Meredith Grey, there was Doogie Howser. He must have been the inspiration to some kids whose standard reply to: what do you want to be when you grow up?, was (sheepishly): a doctor.

Amazing Stories

Perhaps few remember this tv show. Even so, this feed would probably tag some strings in your head and make you remember, ah yun pla yun, hehe.

One of the episodes i remember is that which featured a middle-aged woman driving on the road. As she was driving it starts to rain and an old lady hitchhikes with her..along their way she finds a car and is surprised to find her young self in the car with her dad...then she sees her bridal car ... both of these strange visions happen while she was engaging in some conversation with the hitchhiking lady...then they come to an intersection where (are you still surprised? hehe) she finds a woman caught in a vehicular accident and seeing a familiar something (was it a broken mug? with "Charlie" written on it) realizes that it was her! (oooh...) Her mind races and she finds herself sitting on the driver's seat again (well this is the amazing story...). It ends with the hitchhiking lady saying, "thanks for saving my life honey..." Ooooh, that was amazing for a third grader back then. I was proud of myself when i picked it up (the old lady was her! couldn't it get more amazing?) and didn't ask the adults watching: what was that about? hehe...

Tonight feels pretty much like a Saturday night...what are you watching? :)
